Annual Bicycle Allocation
CP Nepal has started to distribute bicycles to its supported students of grade 7 from January 2011. The bicycle saved time to study and made easier to carry wood and grass from the forest. CP Nepal dreamt about girls riding Bicycles, going to School and at the same time helping their families who mostly survive on forest products.
CP Nepal has allocated up to now 89 bicycles to the deserving students. CP Nepal organizes this event around the Maghi Festival. Maghi is the biggest festival for the Tharu Community and it is celebrated with a lot of merry making and dance.
The bicycle allocation goes with a signed agreement to use dutifully and for their school purpose mainly. An oral oath is taken by the girls not to marry before grade 10 and study well. The allocation of bicycles and educational support to the students has helped to decrease the early marriage in the community. Besides this, the allocation has encouraged them for further study and the drop out rate has been decreased. From last 3 years, there is no any drop out in the educational program.
